Plosives are bursts of air from consonants like P and B that hit the microphone and create short low-frequency thumps. They can trigger compressors and limiters harder than the actual vocal tone.
The problem is usually momentary, so broad low-end cuts are not always the best fix.
Workflow
Treat the event, not the whole vocal
Clip gain, short fades, automation, or a targeted high-pass move can reduce the plosive before it enters the dynamics chain.
A static high-pass filter may help, but too much filtering can thin the vocal between problem words.
Metering
Check the processor reaction
Watch whether the compressor or limiter jumps on plosive syllables. If gain reduction spikes only on those moments, fix the plosive before adjusting the whole compressor.
