Most EQs change both level and phase around the affected frequency range. Linear phase EQ is designed to keep frequency components time-aligned while applying the tonal move.
That can help when processing parallel paths, stereo material, or mastered audio where phase shifts would be noticeable.
Tradeoff
Latency and pre-ringing
Linear phase processing usually adds latency and can create pre-ringing, where energy appears just before a transient.
On drums, vocals, and sharp attacks, that artifact can feel less natural than a normal minimum phase EQ.

Use it for a reason
Choose linear phase EQ when phase consistency matters more than latency or transient purity. For ordinary tone shaping, it is not automatically better.
