An EQ sweep moves a boosted band through the spectrum to find a problem area.
An EQ sweep uses a bell band, often boosted temporarily, while moving its center frequency through a sound.
The goal is to locate ringing, harshness, mud, or a missing range before making a smaller, more musical EQ decision.
A huge sweep boost can make normal frequencies sound broken, especially in dense mixes where every band contains useful material.
Sweeping should identify candidates, not automatically prove that the loudest or ugliest spot deserves a deep cut.
Find the area, reduce the boost, make the actual cut or lift, then listen in the full mix at a matched level.
