What is sample rate?

Sample rate sets how many snapshots of the waveform are captured each second.

Time resolution for digital audio

Sample rate is the number of audio samples stored per second. Common rates include 44.1 kHz for music distribution and 48 kHz for many video workflows.

A higher sample rate can capture and process higher-frequency content, but it also creates larger files and higher CPU use.

Consistency matters more than chasing numbers

Changing sample rate mid-project can cause conversion steps, plugin behavior differences, and session-management problems. Pick a rate that matches the destination and keep the workflow consistent.

Many excellent records are made at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Good gain staging, monitoring, and arrangement usually matter more than a high session rate.

Check the converted file

If the final delivery requires sample-rate conversion, listen to and meter the converted export. Conversion filters and downstream encoding can affect true peak.

Meter Core helps verify that loudness and peak margin survive the final export format.
