PPM metering explained

A PPM shows fast level changes with standardized timing, but it is not a loudness meter.

Program peaks with meter timing

PPM stands for peak program meter. It is designed to show program peaks with defined attack and return behavior, often in broadcast workflows.

A PPM reacts faster than a VU meter, but it still does not necessarily show every digital sample peak or true peak.

Different meters answer different questions

VU meters show slower average-like movement. Sample-peak meters catch digital sample values. True-peak meters estimate reconstructed peaks. LUFS meters estimate perceived loudness.

A PPM is useful when a workflow expects that scale, but it should not replace delivery checks.

Know the standard behind the meter

PPM scales and ballistics vary by standard, so the number only makes sense when you know which meter type you are using.

Meter Core focuses on LUFS, true peak, and related mix checks for modern production delivery.
