Cause
Parallel paths can shift timing or polarity
Compression, saturation, lookahead, oversampling, and routing can add latency or phase shift to the parallel signal.
When the processed path blends back with the dry path, small differences can reduce punch, blur transients, or hollow out the tone.

Test the blend at matched level
Bring the parallel return in slowly, check mono, and compare polarity or delay compensation if the center image gets weaker.
A louder parallel path can hide phase loss, so level-match before deciding that the blend is improving the mix.
Fix
Keep the routing simple and compensated
Use DAW delay compensation, avoid unnecessary plugins on one side of a parallel pair, and choose processors that preserve the punch you need.
