A mono low-end check shows whether bass energy survives speaker collapse and playback translation.
Cause
Stereo low end can disappear
Wide bass, stereo synth effects, reverb, and phase-shifted layers can sound impressive in headphones but lose power when summed to mono.
Club systems, phones, smart speakers, and some broadcast paths can reduce or collapse stereo information, exposing low-end conflicts.
Diagnosis
Collapse the mix and watch the change
Switch the monitoring path to mono and compare the kick, bass, and low mids against the stereo version. A healthy mix may narrow, but the foundation should not vanish.
Use correlation and spectrum views to identify whether the loss comes from phase, width processing, or masking.
Fix
Keep the foundation centered
High-pass wide effects, narrow the sub range, and align layered low-frequency sources. If mono gets stronger after a polarity flip or timing move, the stereo version had a conflict.
Meter Core helps you compare mono compatibility and low-frequency balance while keeping the final loudness in view.
